I think I accidentally created a new neighborhood tradition.

I'm a big music guy, and a few weeks ago I put a speaker in my garage while I was working on my car, playing a bunch of 90s rock. Now my neighbors come over every weekend to hang out and listen.

The full story

I've always been the guy who has music playing no matter what I'm doing—working in the yard, grilling, whatever. A few weeks back on a Saturday, I was changing the oil in my wife's car and had the garage door open with some old Pearl Jam and Smashing Pumpkins playing, not even that loud. My next-door neighbor came over with a beer and just sat in a camping chair on my driveway to listen. Then another guy from across the street did the same thing. The next weekend, the first guy texted me, "you firing up the garage radio today?" So I did. And this time, like five people showed up, some with their own chairs and coolers. Now it's become a thing. My wife thinks it's hilarious. Every Saturday, I'm the designated DJ for the middle-aged dad rock block party. I'm not complaining at all, it's actually been really cool getting to know everyone better. But it's just funny how it started from me just wanting some background noise while doing a chore. I feel a weird amount of pressure to make a good playlist now.
