The most embarrassing thing just happened in my biology lecture.

By @willaok2 · Social

My professor stopped his lecture to ask me to turn my laptop screen brightness down. It was on the lowest setting and I was just taking notes.

The full story

i am actually mortified. i'm in this huge 200-person biology class and i sit in the second row because i'm trying to actually pay attention this semester. i have my laptop out taking notes on the lecture slides like a good student. the professor, who is this older guy who is super serious, stops mid-sentence and just stares in my direction. the whole room goes quiet. he goes "young lady, second row, i'm going to need you to turn your screen down. it's distracting the students behind you." i literally froze. first of all, being called out in a giant lecture hall is my worst nightmare. second, my brightness was already on the lowest possible setting. i literally can't make it any dimmer. i tried to tell him that, i was like "oh, um, it's as low as it can go," but i said it super quietly so i don't think he heard me. he just stood there and waited. so i had to pretend to fumble with my keyboard for a second, and then i just angled my screen down so it was almost closed. i spent the rest of the 90-minute lecture trying to type notes while peering into the tiny gap in my laptop, basically typing blind. i could feel the people behind me looking at me and i'm pretty sure a few of them were laughing. i don't know why my screen seemed so bright to him, it's a super old laptop. i have this class twice a week for the rest of the semester and i don't know how i'm ever going to show my face in there again. should i have just packed up and left?
