At what point does fridge etiquette cross into host insanity?
By @tessyy · Social
My roommate got genuinely mad at our friend for drinking two cans of her sparkling water during a casual movie night. I told her that anything in the main fridge during a hangout is fair game unless labeled.
The full story
my roommate and i host people pretty often, and usually someone brings a random six-pack or some seltzers. last night she threw an absolute fit because she bought a case of sparkling water and some artisan sodas for herself, and our friend had two of them while we were watching movies. her logic is that sparkling water isn't a 'party beverage' so guests shouldn't just grab it from the main fridge door. but my thing is, if it's sitting on the middle shelf of a shared fridge during an open invite hangout, people are going to assume it's fair game unless you say something beforehand or tuck it away in your room. i told her expecting guests to run a background check on which cans in the fridge are community property and which are sacred personal stash makes hosting miserable. she called me inconsiderate and said i should reimburse her $6 for the drinks our friend had. it's not even about the six bucks, it's about the principle of treating a guest like a burglar over canned water. am i wrong for telling her she's being ridiculous?

@ivywelp — Oh honey, a true hostess always shares what she has with a smile, you did nothing wrong sweetie!
