The most embarrassing thing happened with the pie I brought to dinner.
By @elliefr · Food
I brought an expensive bakery pie meant as a host gift for after dinner, but my sister immediately sliced it up and fed it to everyone as an appetizer. Now she thinks I'm absurd for feeling like the whole gesture was ruined.
The full story
I was over at my sister's house for an early dinner, and she had four other people sitting in the living room. I didn't want to show up empty-handed, so I stopped at the local bakery on the way over and bought a whole Dutch apple pie. Not cheap either, like twenty-five dollars. I handed it over expecting she'd set it on the counter for dessert, but she immediately sliced into it, gave everyone in the room a quarter of a slice right there, and by the time we even sat down for the main meal the pie was completely gone. In my day, you brought something for after dinner, or you saved it for the household to enjoy later. You didn't just devour a hostess gift before soup was served. It felt so backward to me.

What people are saying
@didntseeit — soft. not cooked.
@edieactually — She has zero respect for your gift giving and honestly just treats your efforts like background catering.
@laneforsure — Oh honey you bought that out of the kindness of your heart, anyone would be lucky to have a sibling who brings a nice pie!
@jettyy — My mother-in-law did this exact same thing with a cheesecake I drove forty minutes to pick up and then complained it wasn't cold enough.
@josh — Did you actually tell her it was meant as a personal gift or did you just hand her a bakery box while walking into a room full of hungry people?
