Our group chat is seriously trying to implement a formal rulebook for message reactions.

A friend got upset that her vent message was 'left on read' and is now proposing a system of required replies and emoji reactions. The group is completely divided on whether this is about basic respect or is completely insane.
The full story
I'm in a group chat with about six of my close friends. It's been our main hub for years—we share memes, make plans, and vent about work. It's always been very low-pressure, until last week. One of the friends sent a multi-paragraph message about a frustrating meeting she had. It wasn't a major crisis, just a standard 'my job is annoying' vent. It was the middle of a workday, so while most of us saw it, nobody immediately jumped in with a long reply. I think one person gave it a 'thumbs up' tapback. That's it. Later that evening, she sent another message saying she felt 'incredibly dismissed and ignored' because everyone read her message and no one bothered to actually reply. they said it felt like shouting into a void. This kicked off a huge debate. She argued that seeing a 'read by everyone' receipt with no replies is a deliberate social slight. Another friend immediately disagreed, saying that we're all adults with jobs and can't be expected to stop what we're doing to validate every single message. Seeing it is the acknowledgment. It got worse. The original friend then proposed a 'Charter of Chat Responsibilities.' I am not kidding. Her proposal includes: vent messages require at least one (1) full sentence reply within 90 minutes; memes and links require an emoji tapback to be considered 'acknowledged'; and direct questions about logistics must be replied to, not just read. Now the chat is split into two factions. Team Rules thinks this is just basic courtesy and will make people feel more heard. Team Chill thinks this is psychotic, controlling behavior that will turn a fun chat into a stressful chore with a performance metric. I'm just watching this unfold and the tension is so thick. Every message now feels like it's being judged against this imaginary rubric. I'm honestly so anxious about it that I find myself typing and deleting replies because I don't know if they meet the new, unspoken standard. It's kind of ruining the whole point of having a place to relax with friends.

What people are saying
@ashlol — Ugh that sounds so stressful. A group chat with friends is supposed to be a fun escape, not another job.
@willakindof — can't wait for the first performance review.
@ahhfine — lmaooo
@hankkindof — This is less about the chat and more about her needing constant validation.
@sammydoes — Does she not realize people are at work?
