Our friend group just started using a shared grocery list app and it’s already chaos.

We all live in the same dorm building and thought a shared list for groceries and essentials would make life easier. Now it’s just a battlefield for petty arguments.
The full story
ok so there’s like 6 of us who are all pretty close and we hang out all the time, mostly in my room or my friend’s room across the hall. we figured since we all end up sharing snacks and stuff anyway we should just get a shared app to keep track of who needs what from the store. seemed like a good idea. for like one day. now it’s just a constant war. someone will add something normal like milk or chips, and then someone else will go in and change the brand to the expensive organic version. then the original person changes it back. i saw a fight happen in the comments section of ‘paper towels’ for like 20 minutes. people are adding ridiculous stuff too. like one person added ‘a better attitude’ under another person’s name. someone else added ‘a single salmon filet’ which is like $14. for one person. the whole point was to get shared stuff. people are also marking things as ‘urgent’ that are definitely not urgent. like artisinal pickles. urgent?? my guy you are not in an emergency. the worst part is the checkout situation. whoever goes to the store is supposed to just buy everything and then venmo request the group. but then people get mad about what was purchased. ‘i’m not paying for oat milk, i drink regular milk.’ ‘i didn’t even eat any of the doritos why am i paying for them?’ it’s making everything so much more complicated and lowkey i think it’s ruining our friend group. i’m almost ready to just go back to buying my own stuff and hiding it in my room.

@quinnlol — We did this in my house and someone added a PS5 to the list. The experiment ended that day.
@finny — I feel like we're only getting one side of the story here.
@hankok — i see this friendship is going well.
@hanklately — add more ridiculous things to the list and see what happens
@sashafr — this is what happens when social boundaries aren't clearly defined beforehand.
