My wife's sister expects me to eat a separate 'guest' snack when I'm at her house.
By @jettkindof · Family
We go over to my sister-in-law's place a lot to watch the kids. She buys these fancy organic snacks for her family, but then buys a separate bag of cheap pretzels for me and calls them 'my' snacks. I think it's weird and a little insulting.
The full story
My wife and I are at her sister's house probably two or three times a week. It's not a formal visit, we just end up there. I help her husband fix stuff in the garage, we watch the kids, it's a family thing. The issue is the food. My sister-in-law is really into expensive organic food. Everything in her pantry is some kind of artisanal, gluten-free, 15-dollar-a-bag thing. Her kids eat that stuff, she and her husband eat it, and my wife will grab some if she's hungry. But a few months ago, she started buying these giant bags of generic pretzels. they told me, laughing, 'I got these just for you!'. Now, whenever I'm over there and go to the kitchen, if I reach for anything else, she'll pop up and say 'Hey, don't forget I got your pretzels for you on the counter!'. She literally redirects me to the cheap pretzels. I'm not a big snack guy, but it's the principle. I'm family. I'm not some random guest you have to entertain with the cheap stuff you keep in storage. I help them out with stuff all the time that saves them way more than a bag of kale chips would cost. My wife says I'm being ridiculous and should just eat the pretzels or bring my own snack if I care that much. I feel like it's a respect thing. You don't treat family like second-class citizens in your own home.

@welpok — My mother-in-law does this but with diet soda. She keeps a specific brand just for me and gets all weird if I grab anything else lol.
@tatekindof — Start bringing your own bougie snacks and offer them to everyone EXCEPT her.
@nicolately — The artisanal pretzel economy is in shambles.
@sage — just start hiding the pretzels around her house
@claireb — When you are a guest in someone else's house, you eat what they put out for you.
