Our league's draft date is sacred. It's the same weekend every year, right before Labor Day. We have guys fly in for it. My brother knows this. When he and his fiancée announced they were getting married on that Saturday, I called him immediately and told him it was a huge problem. He laughed it off, said 'don't be ridiculous, you'll be there.' But he doesn't get it. This isn't some free Yahoo league. It's a high-stakes auction draft that takes hours. As the commish, I run the whole thing. If I'm not there, it throws everything into chaos. The rules are clear: if you can't make the live draft, you get stuck with auto-drafted players, which is basically a guaranteed loss. We're talking about a significant amount of money and a year's worth of bragging rights. My parents are calling me a selfish jerk. My brother says I'm choosing a 'stupid game' over him. I told him I could try to call in on Zoom for the ceremony and then get back to the draft, but he said if I'm not 100% present, I shouldn't even bother. I feel like I'm in a no-win situation here, but my league mates are counting on me, and I warned him this would happen.
