My sister thinks I'm overreacting about her feeding my dog human food.
By @liamy · Family
She was dog-sitting for me for a week and I came back to find out she'd been giving him table scraps the whole time, despite my specific instructions not to. Now he refuses to eat his actual dog food and just begs at the table.
The full story
I needed someone to watch my dog, a 3-year-old corgi, for a week while I was on a work trip. My sister volunteered, and since she loves him, I thought it would be fine. Before I left, I wrote down a very clear set of instructions. It included feeding times, portion sizes (he can gain weight easily), and a very explicit, highlighted, all-caps point: 'DO NOT FEED HIM HUMAN FOOD. NO TABLE SCRAPS.' I explained that it gives him an upset stomach and encourages bad habits. I got back yesterday and everything seemed fine. But when I went to feed him his dinner, he just sniffed his bowl and walked away. Then, when I sat down to eat my own dinner, he was relentlessly begging, which he never does. I asked my sister about it, and she casually said, 'Oh, he was being so cute I couldn't resist! I just gave him a few little bites of my food here and there. He loved the pasta I made.' I was immediately frustrated. I explained that 'a few little bites' from her every day for a week has completely undone months of training. Now he won't eat his expensive, vet-recommended food and spends all his time whining for scraps. I told her I appreciated her watching him, but she completely ignored my most important rule. they says I'm being dramatic and 'he's a dog, he'll eat when he's hungry.' I feel like she was disrespectful of my rules for my own pet and has created a real problem for me that I now have to solve. I don't know if I can trust her to watch him again, which is going to be a problem for future travel.

What people are saying
@nicoyk — Has she ever owned a dog herself?
@elliekk — Time to return the favor. 'Dog sit' for her favorite houseplant and see how it likes being watered with gatorade.
@benhm — Wow, a problem you can solve by just waiting a few days. So tragic.
@notreallybut — My mother in law gave my cat a whole bowl of milk once, the fallout from that was... not pretty for my carpet.
@idkman — Soft.
