My roommate insists any food in our main fridge is communal property.

We can't agree on this. they says if something isn't on a designated personal shelf, it's fair game for anyone to eat or drink. I think that's a wild take.

The full story

i bought a six pack of some fancy craft soda and put it in the fridge door bc my shelf was full. came back a few hours later and my roommate had helped himself to two of them. when i said something he was like 'dude, it was in the communal area, that means its for everyone. its the rule.' he says if i wanted it saved i should have made space on my shelf in the back. i feel like you should just not touch stuff that you didnt buy regardless of where it is?? he's calling me petty and cheap but who does that. so is this a real house rule somewhere or is he just a food thief lol.
