My husband tried to 'bio-hack' the kids' goldfish.

He's been on a huge health kick and read somewhere about intermittent fasting for pets. I came home and the fish tank had a little sign on it that said 'Feeding Window: 4pm-6pm Only.'.

I honestly don't even know where to begin with this. My husband (42) has gotten really into fitness and 'optimizing' his health over the past year. It's mostly been great—he's feeling better, has more energy, etc. But he has a tendency to apply his new theories to EVERYTHING. I'm talking everything from the dog's diet ('are we sure kibble has the right macro-nutrient profile?') to the garden ('this soil needs more electrolytes'). The kids won a goldfish at the school fair last month. It's a standard-issue, probably-won't-live-that-long goldfish in a small bowl on the counter. The kids (7 and 9) are responsible for feeding it. I came home from picking them up yesterday and there was a post-it note on the tank. they said, in my husband's handwriting, 'Feeding Window: 4pm-6pm Only. Do not feed outside the window.' I asked him about it and he told me he read a study that intermittent fasting can increase the lifespan of aquatic life and he wanted to 'run an experiment' to see if we can get this goldfish to 'live past its genetic potential.' The kids are now stressed that they're going to miss the 'feeding window' and the fish will starve. It's a ten cent goldfish. I feel like I'm losing my mind. This is peak ridiculousness, right? I have to tell him to stop experimenting on the family pets.

@karakinda — Oh honey. You are a patient, patient woman. I would have lost it at the 'electrolytes for the soil' part.
@sageok — So glad I'm single.
@finnliterally — This is a classic case of hobby-creep, where a new interest starts taking over every other aspect of his life.
@ava — On their side. Let the man have his hobbies. He's not hurting anyone and maybe he's on to something.
