my group chat is literally having a meltdown over bringing dogs to brunch.

a friend posted a pic of her beagle on a chair at a cafe and i said i'm not a fan of dogs where people eat. now i'm an animal-hating monster and half the chat is calling me a hater.

i'm not trying to be the villain here i swear. it started so simply. a friend in our gc posted this pic of her dog sitting at the table on a chair at this new brunch spot. like on the velvet chair. caption was "someone's enjoying his puppuccino!" and it's a cute dog i guess but my first thought was just... dog hair and drool where my eggs benedict is supposed to go. so i replied "unpopular opinion maybe but i just can't with dogs inside restaurants". and then it began. the dog owner went off. said i was "shaming her for her lifestyle" and that her dog is cleaner than most people. then her supporters piled on, saying i lack empathy and that businesses that are dog-friendly are creating "inclusive community spaces". one person sent a whole paragraph about how her dogs are her children. then the other side of the chat woke up. my guys came in talking about allergies, sanitation ratings, and the fact that not everyone wants to hear a dog barking while they're trying to have a peaceful meal. now the chat is split into two factions. it's been three hours. i've been called "joyless" and a "cat person" (as an insult?). people are posting articles about the benefits of pet-friendly policies. someone dropped a study about pet dander. this is the dumbest hill to die on but am i actually the bad guy for thinking a restaurant should just be for... humans?
