My girlfriend thinks I ruined our vacation by refusing to check a bag.

they says my 'carry-on only' rule is obsessive and led to a huge fight at the airport. I think I was just being efficient and saving us money.

The full story

So my girlfriend and I just got back from a week-long trip. Before we left, I made it clear I was only bringing a carry-on. I hate waiting at baggage claim, I hate the risk of the airline losing my stuff, and I hate paying the extra $35 each way. I packed light, everything fit. My girlfriend, on the other hand, packed a massive suitcase. We get to the airport for the flight home and she's overweight on her bag. Like, 57 pounds when the limit is 50. The agent tells her it's gonna be an extra $100 for the heavy bag. My girlfriend immediately turns to me and asks me to put some of her stuff in my carry-on because I have space. I said no. I explained that I specifically packed light to AVOID this. I wasn't going to be punished for her overpacking. Well, she lost it. Right there at the check-in counter. She called me selfish and said I cared more about my 'stupid rule' than helping her. She ended up having to frantically pull stuff out of her suitcase and stuff it in her personal item, holding up the line. It was super embarrassing. She paid the fee and then didn't speak to me for the rest of the trip home. Now she's saying I have a 'weird control issue' with travel and that my refusal to be a team player ruined the end of our vacation. I think she needs to learn how to pack properly.
