My boyfriend's 'phone eats first' rule is making our dinners unenjoyable.

Every time we go out to eat, he has to take the perfect series of photos of our food for his social media. By the time I'm allowed to start eating, my meal is lukewarm at best.

The full story

My boyfriend (28) and I (26) have been together for about two years. For the most part, things are great. But there's this one habit of his that is starting to genuinely get on my nerves. He's a self-proclaimed 'foodie,' which means he has an Instagram account dedicated to pictures of restaurant food. This translates to me not being allowed to touch my food until he's conducted a full-on photoshoot. At first, it was kind of funny. But now, it's a whole process. He brings a little portable ring light. He'll stand up and hover over the table to get the right angle. He'll even ask me to hold my fork a certain way in the background for 'texture.' Last night we were at a really nice Italian place for our anniversary, and he spent literally five minutes taking pictures of our pasta. By the time I was 'allowed' to eat, it was lukewarm. I told him it was getting a little excessive and that my food was cold, and he got defensive, saying it's his hobby and I should be more supportive. I understand it's his hobby, but when it's at the expense of actually enjoying the meal we're paying for, it feels different. I'm trying to figure out a reasonable compromise. Do I just start eating while he's taking pictures? Or should I just accept that this is part of dining out with him?
