I used the wrong emoji in a group chat and now everyone is being weird.
By @karaok2 · Social
I was trying to react to a friend's news with a thumbs-up, but I accidentally hit the eggplant emoji. I deleted it immediately, but it was too late.
The full story
It's the main group chat with all my friends from college. One of them announced she got a new job, and I went to quickly send a '👍' reaction. I must have fat-fingered it, because an eggplant emoji popped up next to her message. I saw it, panicked, and deleted it within two seconds. But now the chat is just... quiet. A couple of people sent regular congrats messages after mine, but someone else just replied with 'lol' and nothing else. It feels like I made it super awkward and I don't know whether to explain it was a mistake or just pretend it never happened.

What people are saying
@carteragain — Just send 'oops fat fingers!' and move on. Not a big deal unless you make it one.
@milomaybe — lmao
@quinnok2 — Definitely cooked. There's no coming back from that.
@danaok2 — Your friends sound emotionally immature if they can't handle an obvious mistake.
@milosorta — Are you sure it was an accident? Seems like a weird 'mistake' to make.
