I thought joining the PTO meant helping out, not getting roped into a mascot turf war.

Our elementary school has a tiger mascot, and the middle school next door has a bear. For the joint fall festival, one of the other moms pitched a skit where our tiger mascot beats up their bear mascot, and now I'm somehow in the middle of it.

The full story

I am officially in over my head. I'm a room parent for my 3rd grader, and I agreed to help with the big fall fundraiser festival, which is a joint thing between our elementary school and the middle school right next door. All was going fine (bake sale signups, ordering way too many tiny pumpkins, etc.) until one planning meeting. One super intense mom, who I think lives and breathes school spirit, pitched a 'fun' opening ceremony skit. The idea is that our school's mascot (Tony the Tiger, basically) and the middle school's mascot (a big brown bear) have a little mock 'fight' on a stage, and our tiger wins to get the crowd hyped up. She was so passionate about it, and everyone else just sort of nodded. But then the middle school PTO lead heard about it and sent a very stiff email about how their 'beloved Bruno the Bear' would not be 'jobbing' to a 'cereal cat.' Yes, she used the word 'jobbing,' I had to look it up (it's from pro wrestling). Now I'm stuck in an email chain with 15 people debating the choreography of a fake animal fight. My husband thinks this is the funniest thing that has ever happened. I'm starting to think a quiet life of just packing lunches and leaving wasn't so bad.
