I think I just accidentally became the villain in my entire apartment building's group chat.
By @vinceagain · Social
I was trying to send a voice note to my friend complaining about my roommate's new 'art project.' I sent it to the 'Floor 3 Neighbors' chat with like 40 people in it instead.
The full story
so my roommate is mostly a good dude, but he gets into these really intense, really temporary hobbies. this week, it's natural clothing dye. which sounds cool, except it means our tiny, windowless kitchen has turned into a smelly science lab. he's been boiling stuff like avocado pits, onion skins, and weird roots he foraged from the campus arboretum. our apartment constantly smells like wet dirt and sad, boiled vegetables. anyway i was trying to leave for class and the smell was particularly awful. i was firing off a voice note to my buddy to vent, you know, just typical roommate complaining. i was going off. stuff like 'bruh i swear it smells like a goblin's kitchen in here,' and 'he calls it earth-tone alchemy, it looks like swamp water,' and 'i think my towel actually absorbed the smell and now i smell like a wet log.' pretty harmless stuff between friends. i hit send without looking, grabbed my keys, and walked out. then my phone starts buzzing like crazy. i look down and see the absolute worst thing possible: my 42-second voice note, sitting right there in the 'floor 3 neighbors' chat. the one we use for like, borrowing vacuum cleaners and warning people about parking enforcement. i have never moved so fast in my life. i held down that message and hit 'delete for everyone' so hard i think i cracked my screen protector. but it was too late. i saw the 'seen by 6' notification just before it disappeared. six of my neighbors heard me call my apartment a goblin's kitchen. the worst part was the silence. no one said anything. i saw the three little dots from the girl in 3B pop up, then disappear. i walked back into my apartment and my roommate was just standing there, looking at his phone. he didn't say a word, just gave me this long, unreadable look before going back to stirring his pot of murky water. someone 100% screenshotted it and sent it to him. i have to live here for 10 more months and i think i need to enter the witness protection program.
