I think I broke the unspoken rule of the school pickup line.
By @colekinda · Family
I was in a huge rush and cut a few cars in the parent pickup line at my kid's school. Now I'm getting passive-aggressive emails from the PTA and cold shoulders from other moms.
The full story
Okay, so this has spiraled in a way I truly did not expect. My son's elementary school has a notoriously slow, long, winding car line for pickup. We all just kind of accept it as a daily 25-minute purgatory. You get in line, you inch forward, you get your kid, you leave. Simple. Well, on Tuesday I was running incredibly late for a doctor's appointment I couldn't miss. I'm talking a specialist I had to wait three months to see. I pulled up to the school and the line was already wrapped around the block. In a moment of absolute panic, I saw a gap where the line splits to go around the teacher parking lot. I just took it. I merged in, probably cutting about 10-12 cars in the process. I know, I know. But I was desperate. I got my son, made it to my appointment with seconds to spare, and figured that was the end of it. It was not. The next morning, I had an email from the PTA president (sent to the entire grade's parent list) with a 'friendly reminder about car line etiquette' and how 'line-cutting creates an unfair and unsafe environment for our children.' It was clearly about me. Then, at drop-off, a couple of the moms who I'm usually friendly with just gave me a frosty look and turned away. My husband thinks it's hilarious, calls me the 'Car Line Queenpin,' and says I should just ignore it. But I feel so awkward! It's a small school, and you see these people every single day for years. I feel like I have a target on my back. Part of me wants to just send a reply-all email and apologize, but would that make it even weirder? I feel like I've been blacklisted over a moment of bad judgment.

@weslol — The passive-aggressive PTA email would have me fuming. You're on their side.
@maeee — Oh honey, don't you worry. We've all had moments of desperation. This will all blow over before the first school fundraiser. You had a real emergency!
@tannerk — Nah, you don't cut the line. Doesn't matter what the reason is. Everyone's got something.
@benyy — Your husband is right, this is hilarious. You should get a custom license plate that says 'QUEENPIN.'
@miloee — I'd double down and start wearing a crown and cape to pickup every day.
