I miss when you could just call someone on the phone without it being a big production.

It feels like somewhere along the line, an unscheduled phone call became an emergency signal. I called my daughter to ask a simple question the other day and she immediately texted back 'cant talk what is it??' as if I'd just told her the house was on fire.

It used to be so simple, you know? You'd pick up the phone, dial a number, and have a conversation. Now there's this whole protocol of texting first to see if it's a 'good time.' I find a two-minute phone call is a hundred times more efficient than spending ten minutes texting back and forth, trying to get the tone right so nobody gets offended. I just don't have the patience for it. It makes me feel like I'm bothering people just by trying to talk to them. How am I supposed to keep in touch with my grandkids if I have to make an appointment to call them?
