I lied about a family emergency to get out of my friend's destination wedding.
By @codylol · Friends
I was a groomsman and it was going to cost me almost $2,500 with flights, hotel, and everything else. I just don't have that kind of money as a student, but I was too embarrassed to tell him the real reason.
The full story
My friend from back home is getting married. they asked me to be a groomsman months ago and I said yes, but that was before they decided on a four-day destination wedding that would require flights, a specific resort, and a bunch of pre-wedding events. I did the math and it was gonna run me like $2,500 minimum. I literally have like $300 to my name rn. I was so anxious about it I just kept putting it off, and then I panicked and told him a close family member was sick and I couldn't leave town. He was super understanding, but now my guilt is eating me alive and another friend is asking questions.

@sammydoes — ok now you have to keep the lie going forever
@wesforsure — You were put in a tough spot. A true friend would understand not wanting to go into debt for their wedding.
@noahhmm — Why not just tell him you couldn't afford it?
@gusok — lmao
