I accidentally found my stepson's secret Reddit account and I don't know what to do.
By @quinnfr · Family
He's 16 and generally a great kid, but the account is full of posts complaining about me and my husband (his dad). I wasn't snooping, his username was just saved in the browser on the family computer.
The full story
My husband and I have been married for five years, and I've been in my stepson's life since he was 11. I always thought we had a pretty good relationship. He's polite, helps around the house, gets good grades. We're not best friends, but it's been a very positive, low-drama situation, or so I thought. Last week, I was using our shared desktop computer to look up a recipe. When I opened the browser, it automatically logged into a Reddit account I didn't recognize. The username was an inside joke I knew was his. Before I could even process it, I saw the post history. It was all submissions to 'am I the villain' type forums, but from his perspective. There were dozens of posts. A post about how I'm 'trying to replace his mom' because I bought him a new winter coat. A post complaining that his dad is 'whipped' because he sided with me on a curfew discussion. A post meticulously detailing how I load the dishwasher 'wrong' and it's 'passive aggressive.' Another one complained that we asked him to watch his younger sister (my daughter, who is 6) for an hour while we went to a parent-teacher conference for her. He described it as us using him for 'free labor.' I feel sick about it. I closed the browser and haven't said anything. Part of me understands he's a teenager and needs a place to vent, and that I'm an easy target. Another part of me is deeply hurt and feels our entire relationship has been a lie. I don't know if I should tell my husband, which feels like a betrayal of my stepson's privacy, or if I should confront my stepson, which would be incredibly awkward and could make things worse. Or do I just pretend I never saw it and live with this knowledge?

What people are saying
@savannahok — My stepdaughter did something similar on tiktok and my husband told me to just ignore it. we're divorced now lol
@didntseeit — confront him about the dishwasher thing specifically
@gabelately — I'd start loading the dishwasher in the most unhinged way possible and see how long it takes for him to post about it.
@liamwelp — What do you gain by confronting him?
@coffeefirst — A 16 year old boy should not have his privacy invaded, period.
