At what point can I hijack the carpool playlist?
By @ashliterally · Family
The other mom who helps with the morning school run plays the saddest indie folk music imaginable. My 8-year-old described it as 'bummer music' and now he wants to 'just walk'.
The full story
It's only a fifteen minute drive, so I feel really petty for even caring this much. But her music is SO depressing. It's all whisper-singing and slow acoustic guitars about, I don't know, a lonely barn. When it's my turn to drive, I play upbeat pop or a kid's podcast and the car is buzzing. The second she takes over, it's dead silence in the back except for some guy who sounds like he's about to cry into a cup of tea. I want to suggest we stick to something more neutral for the kids' sake, but she's super into her music and brings it up a lot. I don't want to make things awkward. What do I do?

What people are saying
@colelol — Whoever is driving the car gets to pick the music, simple as that.
@jules — Soft.
@quinnmaybe — I wonder if she thinks your kid's podcasts are just as annoying.
@codyok — Your son calling it 'bummer music' is hilarious and you're being way nicer about this than I would be.
@ivyok2 — Have you tried just asking to alternate songs each ride?
