A silly prank my dad started has spiraled into a full-blown family cold war.

It all started with him hiding a weird ceramic frog in our house for my husband to find. Now my entire extended family has taken sides, and our home has become a real-life spy movie set for this stupid frog.

The full story

Okay, so it started two months ago. My dad (62) thought it would be hilarious to buy this ugly, bug-eyed ceramic frog from a garage sale and hide it in our house. My husband (35) found it in his sock drawer a week later. We all laughed, and my husband hid it in my dad’s glove compartment the next time we saw him. End of story, right? Wrong. So, so wrong. The frog returned. This time, it was in the vegetable crisper in our fridge. Then, my husband found it under his pillow. My dad had enlisted my mom as his accomplice. They became this unstoppable frog-hiding duo. They'd show up for dinner and one would create a diversion while the other scurried off to plant the frog in a new, more absurd location. And THEN it went nuclear. My sister and her wife declared allegiance to MY husband and have become double agents. They try to find the frog before my husband does to re-hide it somewhere my parents will find it. Last week, I caught my dad's brother—my uncle!—crouching behind our recycling bins at 9 p.m., waiting for a "drop." It has become their entire personality. I feel like I'm living in a CIA safe house, but for a ceramic amphibian. Is this just my life now?
