Why does every millennial act like growing up with dial-up was a badge of honor?

My older sister won't stop talking about how much better the early 2000s were. I think she's completely romanticizing an era of terrible internet and flip phones, and she thinks my generation is soft for not 'getting it'.

ok so for context my sister is in her mid-30s and i'm in college. she was visiting my apartment and went on this whole rant about how we have it so easy now and how the early 2000s were this golden age of culture. she was talking about the magic of waiting for a song to download on limewire for three hours, only for it to be a corrupted file or some weird cover version. or the thrill of burning a CD for your crush and making sure the tracklist was perfect. she mentioned AIM and sub-tweeting people with away messages, and how you had to actually TALK to people to make plans instead of just being in a million group chats. sand i'm just sitting here like... are we talking about the same era? the era of dial-up screeching and not being able to use the house phone if someone was online? the era where you'd spend your entire allowance on a CD you heard one song from, only for the rest of the album to be trash? the low-rise jeans that were physically painful to wear?? si'm not saying it was all bad but she acts like these inconveniences were some kind of noble struggle. ngl it sounds awful. she downloaded one (1) virus from kazaa and thinks she survived a war. i tried to explain that just because something was harder doesn't mean it was better. we have instant access to basically all music and media ever made, our phones are supercomputers, and we don't have to carry around a 5-pound cd binder. she says we've lost the 'anticipation' and 'effort' that made things special. i think she's just wearing nostalgia goggles so thick she can't see how clunky and annoying everything was. leaving it up to yall, was it really that great or are millennials just romanticizing their youth?
