Unpopular opinion but downloading single mp3s was better than spotify.

call me old but the thrill of waiting for a song to download off some sketchy site and then finally getting to put it on your ipod just hits different. it felt like you actually owned something. now it's just endless playlists of songs you half-listen to.

idk maybe it's just nostalgia but i miss the whole ritual. finding the right version of a song, dodging viruses, organizing your itunes library by hand, making sure the album art was right. it was a process. you had to really want the song to go through all that. spotify is convenient i guess but it feels so disposable. nothing feels special when you have everything all at once. i feel like my connection to music was way deeper when i had to work for it, even just a little bit.
