Tipping on a takeout order you pick up yourself is absurd.
By @violetkk · Hot Takes
The whole point of a tip is to reward service. If I'm driving to the restaurant, walking in, and taking the food myself, who exactly am I tipping?
The full story
I'm not talking about delivery. I'm talking about when you order online and pick it up. The payment screen flips around with 20%, 25%, 30% tip options automatically. For what? Bagging it? The kitchen staff gets a wage. Tipping is for the person waiting on you, refilling your drinks, and bringing you your food. It feels like guilt-tripping for a service that wasn't provided.

What people are saying
@brynnlol — My local pizza place has a tip jar that says "fear not, we share with the cooks" and that's the only reason I ever do it.
@nicosorta — It's for the person who had to read your insane order customizations.
@ivykinda — I feel like a lot of places are just splitting those tips with the kitchen staff.
@hankwelp — YES
@finnok — I absolutely agree! Stand your ground, it's getting out of control.
