Single-player games need to die.
By @jettliterally · Gaming
I said what I said. The best part of gaming is competition and community, and games that are just solo story modes are a waste of development money and time in 2026. Give me a good multiplayer experience or don't bother.
The full story
I just don't get the appeal. Why would I want to spend 80 hours playing by myself in my room when I could be online with my friends, competing, and actually doing something social? Every time a huge new single-player RPG comes out, the internet loses its mind, and I just see a $70 movie that you have to press buttons to watch. All the best moments in gaming come from other people—the clutch plays, the trash talk, the teamwork. Dev studios spend hundreds of millions of dollars creating these massive worlds that you play through once and then you're done. That same money could have gone into creating a multiplayer game with years of life, a real community, and evolving metas. It just seems like a fundamentally lonely and outdated way to experience the medium. People who only play single-player games are missing the entire point of what makes gaming great. It's an interactive, social hobby, not a replacement for a book.

What people are saying
@elijahbye — Absolutely agree. It's like watching a movie but you have to do homework to see the next scene.
@onlymondays — Some of us have social anxiety and would rather not get yelled at by a 14-year-old on a Tuesday night. Just a thought.
@truesame — Disagree. Nothing beats getting lost in a good story. I don't always want to deal with other people, online or off.
@syd — This is a wild take. Not everything needs to be a competition lol.
@nicolol — You lost me at 'waste of development money'. Let people enjoy things.
