Our online gaming guild of 8 years is imploding over a girl who joined last month.

I'm an officer in a serious raiding guild. Our guild leader's new girlfriend joined, and he's giving her priority on everything. It's tearing our core team apart and I'm caught in the middle.

The full story

We've been a tight-knit group for almost a decade. We've been through game expansions, server moves, everything. Our guild leader (GL) is a good guy, and we were all happy for him when he started dating his new girlfriend about three months ago. Then she decided to join the game. Okay, cool, we're always happy to have new members. But from day one, it was just… different. He started funneling her high-level materials that other members had been pooling for the guild bank. Annoying, but whatever. Then came the raid spots. We have a roster of about 25 people for 20 spots, and some people have to sit out each week. All of a sudden, she's getting a guaranteed spot, even though she barely knows her rotation and dies to the same mechanics every single pull. People who have been with us for years are getting benched for her. The mood in Discord during raids has gotten so tense. I finally tried to talk to him about it last night, as an officer and a friend. I gently brought up that her getting special treatment was causing friction. He completely lost it. He accused me of being jealous and 'gatekeeping' his happiness. And then he announced in the officer channel that he's promoting her to an officer role 'to help with recruiting.' I've been an officer for five years. She's been here for five weeks. Half our core raiders are threatening to quit, and I think I might be one of them.
