Our fantasy football league wants us to put 'on the clock' timers in the office bathroom.
By @niatbh · Work
The league commish sent a semi-serious proposal to speed up draft picks since our live draft is always during a workday. It involves a 60-second sand timer in each stall, and I am not on board with this.
The full story
Our office has a very, very intense fantasy football league. I participate because it's good for team bonding, but some people take it to another level. Our live draft is always a logistical nightmare because we do it on a random Tuesday during work hours. To 'solve' the problem of people being away from their desks and holding up the draft, our commissioner (who is one of the senior managers) just emailed a proposal. He wants to put 60-second sand timers in the bathroom stalls. The idea is if you're in there during the draft, you have to flip the timer, and you can't take longer than a minute. He claims it's just a 'joke' to keep things moving, but he actually linked to a product page for custom timers. Now my inbox is full of people debating the merits of this. Half the office thinks it's a hilarious, brilliant idea. The other half, including me, thinks it's a completely absurd and frankly, kind of invasive HR issue waiting to happen. My boss just came over and asked me if I thought we should get the timers in the company colors. I don't know how to explain that I want no part of this without looking like I'm not a 'team player'.
