He has access to every song ever made for ten bucks a month and thinks it's a raw deal. Kids today have no idea how good they have it, and they're missing out on the whole point of music.

I was trying to explain to him what it was like back in the day. You saved your money. You went to a store, maybe a Sam Goody or something at the mall. You spent half an hour just flipping through the racks trying to decide on the one CD you could afford that week. Then you got home, peeled off that stupidly sticky plastic wrap, and popped it into the stereo. You'd sit there and listen to the whole album, front to back, while reading every word in the little paper booklet. The liner notes, the thank yous, all of it. That was the experience. That was how you found new bands. You BOUGHT the album because you liked one song on the radio and you ended up loving the whole thing. Now it's all just background noise. A playlist for this, a playlist for that. They'll listen to three seconds of a song and skip because their thumb is bored. There's no investment. They don't own a single thing, they just rent it.
