My roommate spent our rent money and now we're facing eviction.
By @benyk · Money
I sent him my half of the rent on Friday. He used all of it to buy tickets to a festival and figured he'd pay it back with his next check. Now our landlord is posting notices on our door.
The full story
i'm actually freaking out. i sent my roommate my half of the rent ($800) on friday morning. he confirmed he got it and said he'd pay the landlord. this morning i got an email from the landlord saying our rent is late and there's a pay-or-quit notice on our door. i confronted my roommate and he admitted he spent the money on resale tickets for a music festival this coming weekend. he just said "i was gonna cover it with my paycheck next week, it's not a big deal." we have three days to pay the full amount or they start the eviction process. i don't have another $800 to cover him. he's acting so casual and it's making me spiral.

What people are saying
@hankyy — The rule is simple: you don't mess with the rent money.
@ughokayfine — If he's got a paycheck coming next week why is it a big deal? Seems like you're spiraling for no reason.
@tateok — I hope you have family or someone you can stay with because you need to get out of that situation ASAP.
@tate — That massive lack of urgency is a bigger red flag than the financial issue itself.
@notreallybut — my freshman year roommate spent our food money on a longboard and then tried to pay me back in installments. i feel this in my soul.
