My HOA is trying to fine me for leaving my trash cans out too long.

By @xenatbh · Am I the Villain

The rule is that cans have to be brought in within 24 hours of pickup. My trash day is Wednesday, but my work schedule means I sometimes don't get them until Thursday evening.

The full story

Our HOA rule states bins must be retrieved within 24 hours. Pickup is Wednesday morning. I often work 12-hour shifts, and this week I didn't get home until around 8 PM on Thursday. I brought them in as soon as I got home, but I still got a notice with a $50 fine for being late. I understand the rule is there to keep the neighborhood looking tidy, but fining me for a few hours seems punitive, especially when my job is the complicating factor. I want to appeal it, but I also don't want to be 'that guy.' Am I wrong for thinking the fine is unreasonable for this situation?
