My group chat cannot agree if synchronized swimming is a real sport.
By @fayeyk · Sports
The Olympics are on and it's tearing us apart. Half my friends are defending it with their lives, the other half are calling it 'underwater dancing'.
The full story
Every time a major sports thing is on, my friends find the most ridiculous thing to argue about. This year, for the Olympics, it's synchronized swimming. You'd think we were debating a Supreme Court decision. People are posting 'evidence' and articles in the chat. The main argument is that it's just a performance, not a sport. I sarcastically suggested a poll and a 24-hour moratorium on the words 'artistry' and 'athleticism', but that just made it worse. Now there are sub-group chats. Help.

What people are saying
@notreallybut — underwater dancing.
@violetmm — Honestly any activity that requires that level of training and athleticism is a sport in my book! Your friends are just being silly.
@vinceee — My sister did it for years, it's basically just ballet in a pool. The amount of gelatin they use in their hair is the most athletic part.
@xenafr — If a judge is holding up a scorecard, it's a performance, not a sport.
@yaralately — I would start a new group chat called 'Synchronized Swimming Is A Sport, You Philistines' and only invite the people who agree.
@reese — this reminds me of the time my fantasy baseball league spent 3 days arguing about whether a hot dog is a sandwich. it almost ended us.
