My fantasy football group chat is unironically the most supportive group of guys I know.

People always talk about how toxic fantasy sports leagues can get. But my league's group chat is genuinely the most positive and uplifting space I'm a part of online.

The full story

When I first joined this fantasy football league a few years ago, I was ready for the usual trash talk and betting drama. And yeah, there's some of that during the season, but it's all in good fun. The thing that actually surprised me is what the group chat is like the other nine months of the year. It's become this incredibly positive space. We're a mix of guys in our late 20s and early 30s, and people are constantly posting real life wins. One guy just got a huge promotion at work and everyone was hyping him up, asking about his new role, and genuinely celebrating with him. Another dude's wife just had a baby, and the chat was flooded with congrats, people offering to drop off food, and just being super wholesome. Even with the small stuff, like someone running their first 5k or fixing a leaky faucet they were stressed about, there's always a bunch of 'let's goooo' and 'huge W' messages. We've gone from being just a bunch of guys who play a game together to a legitimate support system. Someone will post about having a rough week, and instantly three or four people are in his DMs checking in. It's not something I ever expected to come out of a fantasy league, but it's honestly one of the best things on my phone.
