My dad still brings up the time I spent my entire Blockbuster gift card on candy.
By @yarakindof · Nostalgia
It was for $20, which felt like a million dollars when I was a kid. I was supposed to rent an N64 game for the weekend, but the siren song of giant Pixy Stix and Nerds Rope was just too powerful.
The full story
I remember walking into Blockbuster, the crinkly plastic gift card clutched in my sweaty little hand. The mission: rent a new game for my brother and me. But then I saw it. The wall of candy. My kid brain just short-circuited. I spent every last cent. My brother was furious, my dad gave me the disappointed sigh, and I was left with a stomachache and no new game to play. To this day, anytime I buy something frivolous, my dad goes, "Remember the Blockbuster incident?" Yes, dad. I do.
