Our office has a hot-desking policy, but a few people are trying to claim the best desks (by the windows) every day by leaving personal items there overnight. Now it's escalating into a passive-aggressive war.

When our company switched to a hot-desking model, the rule was simple: first come, first served. Any items left overnight are supposed to be moved to a lost and found. But a specific team has decided the rules don't apply to them. They leave their insulated coffee mugs, a notebook, or a jacket on the prime desks with the best view. When someone new sits there, they get a frosty, 'Oh, I must have forgotten my stuff there last night.' It's incredibly annoying. I come in early specifically to get a good spot and I have to either move their stuff (and look like the bad guy) or resign myself to a desk in the dark corner. Management won't do anything because they don't want to 'micromanage.'
