My coworkers have started charging cancellation fees for lunch plans.

By @benhm · Work

A few people on my team make a big deal about booking a table for our weekly lunch, and now they're saying if you cancel within 24 hours, you have to Venmo them $10. It feels absurd to me.

The full story

There's a group of about six of us who try to get lunch once a week. Two people are really into planning it and will reserve a table a few days in advance. Last week, someone canceled the morning of, and the planners got annoyed. Now they've made a 'rule' in our group chat. If you bail on lunch less than 24 hours before the reservation, you owe them $10 for the 'inconvenience' of adjusting the booking. I think it's ridiculous for a casual work lunch, but a few others are going along with it to keep the peace. I just don't go anymore.
