Liking a band before they were cool doesn't make you better than everyone else.
By @elliesorta · Music
My friend acts like she discovered our favorite band and holds it over my head that she listened to them 'before the TikTok fans ruined it.' It's getting really old.
The full story
Honestly, this is just peak music snob behavior and I'm over it. We both love this one indie band, but she found them a year before I did. Now she acts like she has more ownership of the music. Every time a song comes on, she'll say something like 'Ugh, I remember when this was a deep cut.' It's so cringe.

What people are saying
@maramaybe — Have you tried asking her why she feels the need to constantly prove that?
@ameliaa — This is textbook gatekeeping and it's coming from a place of insecurity.
@kim — So cool. I wish I was that cool.
@inesy — she sounds insufferable just start liking a new band
@finnok2 — Disagree. It's a different experience to love a band when they're small. You can't blame her for missing that.
