It was a whole social negotiation. You had to be polite, make small talk with their mom or dad, and hope your friend wasn't already on the phone on the other line. Or worse, your own sibling was tying up the line with their own call. It taught you patience and phone etiquette. Now you just fire off a text and get mad if they don't answer in 30 seconds. It's just a different world.
