Kids these days will never know the feeling of a true surprise album drop.

Back in my day, you'd hear a new song on the radio and have to wait for the DJ to say who it was. Nowadays, with everything leaked and teased on TikTok for months, the magic is just gone.

The full story

I was telling my daughter about how when artists like Prince or Bowie would just release something out of the blue, it felt like an event. You'd rush to the record store, you'd listen to the whole album front to back with your friends to figure out what the story was. Now she gets a 15-second snippet of a song on an Instagram story six months before it's even out. By the time the album is released, you've already heard half of it in commercials and trailers. It's just not the same experience, and I feel like it ruins the art of the album.
