I’ve apparently committed a major office crime by throwing out someone’s two-week-old yogurt.

I was doing a courtesy clean-out of the communal fridge before the weekend. Now there's a passive-aggressive, all-caps note on the door about 'respecting property' and my coworker won't speak to me.

The full story

Our office fridge is a lawless wasteland. Every few months I do the dirty work of clearing out the science experiments. Today, that included a yogurt that was so old the expiration date was a historical event. I didn't think much of it until I saw a very passive-aggressive, all-caps note taped to the fridge this afternoon about 'THEFT' and 'personal property.' The owner of said yogurt, a guy from accounting, has been storming past my desk all day without making eye contact. Did I cross a line by not sending a department-wide email to ask permission to throw out his spoiled milk product?
