I secretly started an anonymous coffee fund at work and it's accidentally become wholesome.

I got a small bonus and wanted to do something nice without making a big deal out of it. I started leaving a $20 bill by the office coffee machine on Mondays with a note saying 'For the team.'.

The full story

At first, people were just confused and nobody touched it. But after the second week, the office manager put a little jar next to the machine, and now it's a whole thing. People started chipping in their own cash when they could. Someone from accounting began bringing in different fancy syrups—hazelnut, vanilla, the works. Our usually very quiet, serious head of IT brought in a box of donuts and just silently nodded at the coffee pot before heading to his desk. Nobody knows who kicked it off, and I've never said a word. It feels like this small, unspoken club we're all in. On Fridays, if there's money left over, one of the junior staff will make a run for fancy iced lattes for everyone. It's genuinely the best $20 I spend all week, watching this tiny ritual bring a little bit of warmth to our floor. It's a nice change of pace from the usual stress of deadlines and meetings.
