making a playlist on spotify takes zero effort. you can add/delete songs, change the order, whatever. burning a cd was a commitment, you had one shot to get it perfect.

it's so easy to just send a link to a spotify playlist now but i was thinking about how intense it was to burn a cd for a crush back in the day. you had like 74 minutes of space, 80 if you were lucky. you had to pick the PERFECT songs. not just good songs, but songs that sent a specific, subtle message. then you had to get the ORDER right. the opener had to be strong, you needed good flow, and the closer had to leave an impression. and once you hit 'burn,' that was it. no edits. you'd listen to the whole thing, realize that one transition was kinda awkward or you put a song on there that was a little too cringe, and you just had to live with it. giving someone a cd you burned was like handing them a piece of your soul that you spent hours agonizing over. sending a playlist link to someone takes 5 seconds. it's just not the same.
