I'm pretty sure my friend is using an AI to answer our group chat.

His replies are always way too formal and weirdly poetic. they asked him what he's doing for the 4th of July and his response was, "I shall be observing the celestial pyrotechnics with profound admiration.".

The full story

This started about a month ago. Our friend who used to text like a normal human (typos, slang, zero punctuation) suddenly started sounding like a Victorian poet who just discovered a thesaurus. At first we thought it was a joke, but he's committed to the bit 24/7. Yesterday my friend asked if he'd seen the latest episode of our show and he replied, "Indeed, the narrative arc has reached a crescendo of unparalleled emotional resonance." We just wanted to know if the main character crashed out, dude. Now we're making a game out of it, trying to ask the weirdest questions possible to see what kind of unhinged, grammatically perfect response he'll generate. The current winning prompt was "do you think a hot dog is a sandwich" which got us a three-paragraph dissertation on the 'structural and philosophical nature of cylindrical foodstuffs.' I'm torn. On one hand, it's the funniest thing our group chat has ever done. On the other, I can't ask him a normal question anymore and I'm starting to think he's forgotten how to communicate. Should we just call him out on it or see how long he can keep this up?
