I kicked my buddy's girlfriend out of our Sunday football watch party for unplugging the TV.

During the fourth quarter of a tight Sunday game, my friend's girlfriend unplugged our living room TV so we would watch a baking show instead. I told her if she touched the cables again she had to leave, and now my friend claims I humiliated her.

The full story

I host NFL Sundays at my place every single weekend because I have the big dual-screen TV setup in my basement. It’s an unspoken rule that my living room runs on RedZone energy. Last Sunday, my buddy brought his new girlfriend over for the first time. Right in the middle of the frantic 3:30 PM fourth-quarter window when three different games were within one score, she grabbed the main remote off the coffee table and put on the Great British Baking Show. they said anything for about twenty seconds because we were all stunned. I laughed thinking it was a bit, took the remote back, and switched the game back on. Five minutes later, while we're locked into a critical goal-line stand, she literally unplugs the HDMI cable from the back of the Apple TV and says, 'You guys have been staring at men running into each other for four straight hours, let’s watch people make sourdough.' I didn't yell or cuss, but I got up, plugged the cord back in, and said, 'Look, you’re welcome to hang out, but this is football Sunday. If you mess with the TV or touch the cables again, you gotta go wait upstairs or head home.' My buddy gave me a dirty look, packed up their stuff, and left with her five minutes later. Now he’s blowing up our fantasy group chat saying I humiliated his girlfriend over a regular season game and made her feel completely unwelcome. The chat is split—two guys said I acted like a petty caveman and should’ve just put the game on an iPad to be polite to a newcomer, while the other guys said unplugging an active game at host's house is an immediate ejection worthy of a red card. Am I actually the jerk here?
