I intentionally 'forgot' it was my birthday at work this week.

My office team has this unspoken rule that you have to bring in treats for your OWN birthday. I think it's a backwards tradition, so I just didn't do it.

The full story

Our team has this unspoken rule that you bring in donuts or bagels on your own birthday, and I personally think it's a juvenile tradition. Why am I buying presents for 20 other people on my day? This year, I decided to just quietly not participate. The problem is, my work calendar automatically sent a notification to the team. Now my manager has been making incredibly pointed, passive-aggressive comments in our team chat about a 'lack of celebratory spirit' this week. It feels petty, but I also feel like everyone's silently judging me and now I'm the jerk.
