I discovered the unofficial office library and it's the best part of our company culture.

It's just a random shelf in the breakroom where people leave books they've read. There's an unspoken trust that you'll bring it back or replace it with something else.

The full story

I'm pretty sure it started with one person and just grew organically. Today I saw our head of finance, a guy who is normally all business and spreadsheets, quietly add a well-loved fantasy novel to the shelf. Someone else had left a little sticky note on a thriller that just said 'You HAVE to read this!' It's a small, unspoken thing that makes the office feel a bit more human. No reply-all emails, no mandatory fun, just good books.
