I brought a dozen donuts to the office on my birthday.

By @paigemm · Work

I don't love being the center of attention, so instead of having a whole thing, I just brought in donuts for my team. Later in the day, my boss pulled me aside and thanked me, saying it was a really thoughtful and low-key way to celebrate that everyone appreciated.

The full story

My birthday was last week and I'm not a huge 'let's all celebrate me' person at work. In past jobs it's always felt a little forced. So this year, I just brought in a box of really good donuts from a local place and put them in the kitchen with a little note. No big announcement. People seemed to like it, and later my boss sent me a message saying it was a classy move and that he appreciated that I'd done something for the team without expecting a fuss. It was just a nice, quiet, positive moment at work.
