I've worked at this manufacturing plant for 12 years. I know every machine, every process. A little over a year ago, they hire this kid, maybe 23 years old. Fresh out of some program. My supervisor tells me to show him the ropes. So I did. For months, I had him as my shadow. I taught him the right way to do things, the safe way. I showed him the little tricks you only learn from experience, not from a textbook. I was patient. I made sure he understood the job because my name was on his training. Six months ago, our floor manager retired. I put in for the job. I figured it was my turn. I've put in the time, I have the experience, I've shown I can lead. I never got an interview. A few weeks later, they announce the new manager. It's the kid I trained. He has my old supervisor's office now. He holds the clipboard. He goes to the meetings. And I found out last week he's making a solid 30% more than I am, because he left his pay stub on the community printer. I'm still on the floor, doing the same work. Yesterday, he came out and tried to 'correct' my workflow on a process I practically invented 5 years ago. Said there was a 'more efficient' way to do it. His way took 15 minutes longer. I just stood there and looked at him. I didn't say a word. I just did it his way. Every hour I'm here now feels like a slap in the face. My wife says I should quit, but jobs like this with my pension aren't easy to find. I don't know if I should go to HR, go to the plant manager, or just shut my mouth and cash the check. But I don't know how much longer I can stomach it.
