My coworkers have started charging cancellation fees for lunch plans.

By @violetkay · Work

A few people on my team started a spreadsheet to track who bails on group lunch plans within 24 hours of the reservation. If you cancel, you owe the organizer $10 for the 'inconvenience'.

The full story

It started as a joke because one person on our team is notoriously flaky. But now it's a real thing. This week, something came up and I had to cancel lunch plans I'd made for Friday. I gave them a full day's notice, but my name is now on the spreadsheet with a $10 fee next to it. I think it's ridiculous — we're not a restaurant. But when I pushed back, they said it was about 'respecting people's time and planning.' I feel like I'm being held hostage by a lunch club.
